Wins Barrett Amateur Championship in Exciting Finale |

Jordan Sherratt of Morphett Vale,
South Australia came out on top in an exciting playoff
on Saturday in the final round of the 2009 Barrett Amateur
Championship. Sherratt shot 72 in the final round to
go with his opening round of 71, 2nd round of 67, &
3rd round of 69. Saturday’s finish came down to
the wire as Sherratt missed his opportunity to win the
championship on the 72nd hole of play, which then forced
a playoff with 2008 Barrett Amateur Champion Dylan Frittelli
of Preotoria, South Africa.
Sherratt, is currently ranked in
the top 100 amateurs in the world according to the World
Amateur. Sherratt started the day with 2 double bogeys
at holes 1 & 2, followed by a birdie at the 3rd.
He then made another birdie on the fifth hole &
finished the front nine with a bogey at the 9th, to
go out in 39 (+3). On the back nine, Sherratt made one
bogey on the back at the par 3, 12th hole, but made
birdies at 11, 13, & 17 to finish with a 33 (-2),
and an 18-hole score of +1 (72), 72 hole score of -5
(270). In the sudden victory playoff, Sherratt stuck
his 2nd shot close on the par 4, 1st hole to make birdie
& to claim the championship.
Frittelli earned a spot in the playoff
by firing a -1 (70) on Saturday. Frittelli made 1 bogey
at the 2nd hole, followed birdies on holes 3, 5 &
9 (-2 thru 9). On the back, Frittelli made 1 bogey at
the 16th for a +1 (36) and 18-hole score of -1 (70).
In the sudden victory playoff, Frittelli made par to
finish in 2nd position in the 76 player field.
In a 2-way tie for third place were
Corey Conners of Listowel, ON & JG Claassen of Johannesburg,
South Africa. Conners fired a -2 (69) in the final round,
while Claassen shot a -1 (70) for a tournament score
of -4 (279).
Mathieu Gingras of Moncton, NB finished as the top New
Brunswick player in the event. Gingras finished the
4th round with a +1 (73), (72-hole score of +4, 288).
With his victory, Sherratt earned
an exemption into the 2009 Canadian Amateur Championship,
scheduled for Le Club de Golf le Blainvillier, at Blainville,
PQ. The top 20 finishers have earned points on the RCGA’s
National Order of Merit, whereas the top 25 competitors
earning an automatic exemption into next year’s
Barrett Amateur Championship.
The Barrett Amateur Championship
is the highest ranked Canadian event on the World Amateur
Golf Rankings. The Barrett is also a counting event
for Golf Week’s Scratch Players World Amateur
