Lorne Rubenstein to Attend 2009 Barrett
Amateur Championship
Woodstock, N.B. – Lorne Rubenstein,
an award-winning golf writer and a member of the Canadian
Golf Hall of Fame, has confirmed that he will attend
the 2009 Barrett Amateur golf tournament, July 29 -
Aug 1, 2009 at the Fairmont Algonquin Golf Course in
picturesque Saint Andrews-by-the-Sea.
Lorne Rubenstein has been reporting
on golf for more than thirty years, writing for publications
around the world. In addition to his editorial contributions,
he has published nine books including “Mike Weir:
The Road to the Masters.” He has just recently
launched a new book, “This Round’s on Me.”
He was inducted into the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame
in 2007.
“Lorne Rubenstein intimately
knows the courses, the history, the tournaments, the
technology, the psychology, and the people surrounding
golf. We look forward to welcoming him to St. Andrews
and the Barrett Amateur”, says Garrett Turta,
General Manager of the Fairmont Algonquin.
The Barrett Amateur originated nine
years ago as a regional invitational tournament in Atlantic
Canada. The caliber of the field has grown since then,
with representation from across Canada and into the
United States. In 2008, the tournament hosted players
from six nations, including players from Canada, United
States, South Africa, Argentina, Uruguay and Honduras,
some of whom were ranked the top 10 golf amateurs in
the world.
“One of our goals has been to
attract elite, international golfers. It’s always
been about quality, not quantity. We are optimistic
we can continue to build on that objective this year”,
says Pierre Arsenault, Executive Director of the New
Brunswick Golf Association.
While the 2009 Barrett Amateur field
has yet to be announced, top ranked players from Australia
and South Africa are expected to attend.
