Jordan Sherratt of Morphett Vale, South Australia came out on
top in an exciting playoff on Saturday in the final round of
the 2009 Barrett Amateur Championship. Sherratt shot 72 in the
final round to go with his opening round of 71, 2nd round of
67, & 3rd round of 69. Saturday’s finish came down
to the wire as Sherratt missed his opportunity to win the championship
on the 72nd hole of play, which then forced a playoff with 2008
Barrett Amateur Champion Dylan Frittelli of Preotoria, South
Africa. |

| Summary:
The third round of the 2009 Barrett Amateur Championship began
Friday morning without any delays. Mild fog did not affect the
early morning draw. Jordan Sherratt of Morphett Vale, South
Australia was one of two players who fired low rounds of the
day, -2 (69) to jump on top of the leaderboard. Sherrat made
one birdie on the front nine (35), followed by one bogey and
two more birdies on the back (34). Sherrat’s two day total
of -6 (207) is 2 shots better than last year’s champion,
Dylan Frittelli of South Africa. |

African JG Claassen leads fog delayed Barrett Amateur |

| Summary:
After two fog delays, totalling five hours, JG Claassen managed
to shoot the lowest round of the 2009 Barrett Amateur tournament
with a 7-under par 64. During round one, Claassen shot a two
over 73 using borrowed clubs, as his were still in transit from
being lost en route from his hometown of Johannesburg, South
Africa. Today, round two was delayed by fog and rain from 8am
until 11:30am, followed by another hour and a half delay around
12:30pm. |

Amateur Championship just took a giant leap forward. Being played
for the 9th time in 2009, the Barrett Amateur will move to a

Dylan Frittelli of Cape Petoria, South Africa, came out on top
Monday in the final round of the Barrett Amateur Championship.
Frittelli shot 67 in the final round to go with his 68 in the
first round of play on Saturday. Unfortunately, Sunday’s
intended second round was cancelled due to the dangerous weather
conditions. This is Frittelli’s first time in Canada and
he will be a freshman at the University of Texas this coming
fall. |

Peterson Leads Rain Shortened Barrett Amateur |

| Summary:
Like 17 other players in the field, Texan John Peterson reported
to work early today to finish up his first round of play. Things,
however, were slow getting started as fog once again delayed
play until 9:30AM, two hours later than the scheduled start
time. Peterson made the most of his two remaining holes, posting
birdie and par to finish his first round at 4 under par 67.
This was good enough to give Peterson a one shot lead over Matt
Parziale of Massachusetts, David Markle of Ontario and South
Africa’s Dillan Frittelli, who was also forced to finish
his 1st round on Saturday morning. |

| Summary:
David Markle of Shelburn, Ontario and Matt Parziale of Brockton,
MA shot 68 in the first round of the Barrett Amateur Championship
at the Algonquin Golf Course on Saturday. Markle was 2 under
par 34 on the front nine with birdies on 2 and 9. Birdies on
12, 16 & 17 led to a one under par 34 on the back nine.
Markle currently plays golf at Kent State University and he
is ranked 27th in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, making him
the highest ranked Canadian in the field. Parziale was one under
par on his front nine and 2 under par on the back to finish
at -3. Birdies on 6, 7, 9, 15, 16 & 18 contributed to Parziale’s
strong performance on Saturday. |

The team is Jacques Blaauw, Dylan Frittelli, and Cameron Johnston,
who is fifth in the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR). Blaauw
is 61st and Frittelli is 91st. |

The South African Golf Association (SAGA) announced a team of
three players to compete in the Barrett Amateur Championship,
a 54 hole stroke play competition taking place from 2 to 4 August
over the Algonquin Golf Course in St Andrews, New Brunswick,
Canada. The team is Cameron Johnston (Western Province), Dylan
Frittelli (Gauteng North) and Jacques Blaauw (Boland). “We
received an invitation from the New Brunswick Golf Association
to compete in this competition, which we have gratefully accepted,”
explained Neale Kunhardt, the SAGA President. |
